Hack4Future – Hack the Climate Change – Sicily: Where the Future Meets the Climate

Sicily once again becomes the stage for an unprecedented challenge: Hack4Future – Hack the Climate Change – Sicily, an hackathon dedicated to imagining and building solutions to tackle the increasingly unpredictable effects of climate change.

Organized by Open Data Playground in collaboration with the Universities of Messina, Catania, and Palermo, and the CINI Data Science Laboratory, the event is designed for university students eager to get hands-on with data and ideas, all with a single goal: creating useful tools for the region by those who experience it every day.

The hackathon will take place online from May 3 to May 12, 2025. On May 21, the finalist teams will meet in person at the Aula Magna “Vittorio Ricevuto”, Department of MIFT, University of Messina to present their projects to a jury and an audience of experts and institutions and to participate in the final awards ceremony.

Participants, organized into teams of two, will tackle a real-world problem, such as optimizing the regional hydrogeological system to address future challenges, from droughts to floods. All of this will be achieved using Palantir Foundry, a platform that transforms data into decision-making tools.
